Copenhagen airport is the primary international gateway for Denmark and the Oresund Region of Sweden. The airport is located approximately five miles south of Copenhagen and 15 miles across the Oresund Bridge from the Swedish city of Malmo. The airport began operation in 1925 as one of the world’s first private airfields. Major developments in the airport’s history include the construction of a new passenger terminal in 1936 and the founding of the airline SAS in 1946. The airline established the first transpolar route when it flew from Copenhagen to Los Angeles in 1954. The airport, known locally as Kastrup, now has four terminals and is the 15th busiest airport in Europe. It services almost 23 million passengers each year. Terminal 1 services domestic passengers, Terminals 2 and 3 are for international travelers and the fourth terminal is designed to handle the influx of low-cost carriers.

Passengers will find a modern, well-equipped facility that boasts complimentary wireless Internet, duty-free shops, beauty salons, numerous restaurants, boutiques and lounges. Travelers can check-in using self-service kiosks, mobile devices or an Internet portal. Passengers who are checking luggage can leave their bags at a central drop-off location. The restaurants offer a wide selection of international cuisine. There are shops that range from luxury brands to retailers where you can purchase last minute items. The airport has hot showers, saunas and play areas for children in the airport lounges. There are numerous works of art on display throughout interior and exterior areas of the terminal buildings.

Metro system air-rail links connect the airport to the city. A train station is located beneath Terminal 3. Patrons can also access the airport by regularly scheduled bus service with stops near Terminals 2 and 3. Buses and trains depart every few minutes. You can access the airport by taxi, airport shuttle or car. Airport patrons arriving by car will find seven parking lots with shuttle service to the terminals.

Strategically positioned in the municipalities of Tarnby and Dragor, Copenhagen is one of Europe’s oldest international airports and the largest airfield in the Scandinavia.
